The Epoch Golf Tee

Making the Switch May Increase Ball Speed and Control off the Tee

High tech is reaching every aspect of golf; from clubs to shirts, and now even to the tees that golfers stick in the ground. The thing is, the Epoch seems to work.

Here are some golf tees you need to pick up before your next golf trip.

With their durable Epoch Tee, Evolve Golf is the first company to act on the assumption that increased ball speed and lower friction can be impacted at the starting point, as the ball sits on the tee.

Since it's debut in 2004, the Epoch golf tee has been a part of over 100 major tour wins, including 30 on the PGA Tour. According to the company, Epoch is the only performance golf tee with radius posts that span the width of a golf ball dimple. This unique feature creates the lowest coefficient of friction of any tee, eliminating deflection at impact and increasing ball speed and control off the tee. Evolve claims that the Epoch has been scientifically proven via a series of rigorous independent robotic tests combined with extensive player testing to provide improvements of up to 12 yards distance and 9 yards accuracy. That is highly robust improvement, just from a tee!

In addition to its performance advantages, Epoch is completely sustainable. Made entirely from recycled and renewable materials, the mower-friendly design lasts 10-times longer than a wooden tee. In short, they've made "going green" a reality and advantage in golf.

After testing the the tee for several weeks, it has been found to be much more durable and long-lasting than a regular wooden tee. The "posts" were not, as initially thought, a week spot. Rarely did they break before the main part of the tee. As for distance and control results, though hard to measure without robotic testing or some other scientific measure, the tee certainly didn't detract from them. The Epoch performed well enough to stay in the bag until the next improvement comes along. No going back to old wooden golf tees for us.

The next generation of Evolve Golf tees isn't far away. In Fall 2008, they will be introducing the Vireo. Not much is known about the Vireo at the moment. In fact, Evolve only has an image of the Vireo on their website, with no accompanying description. If it's as nice of an improvement as the Epoch, it should be a success. If it's also an example of golf "going green," that should be a selling point, too.

According to Evolve Golf Founder and CEO, BJ Maloy, "The Epoch has truly become a staple among the world's elite golfers." It has that. It seems every week the winner somewhere was playing the tee. The Epoch is certainly worth a try by everyone.
