Fremont's Summer Breeze Golf Course offers a fun, unique and challenging layout for golfers of all skill levels.

What do you do when you purchase a bowling alley and inherit acres and acres of corn fields? Fremont Lanes' owners Randy Busch and Red Meyette faced this very dilemma. Their solution? Convert the fields into a Par 3 Golf Course.

Located about 20 miles from the city of Muskegon and just under an hour from Grand Rapids, the city of Fremont (in Newaygo County) is best known as the headquarters for the Gerber Baby Food Company. Fremont's Summer Breeze Golf Course is just a few miles outside of the city limits. Designed by one of its owners (Red Meyette), the course provides quite a few challenges for the experienced golfer, but offers a workable layout for the novice.

Playing the Course at Summer Breeze in Fremont

  • Hole #1— The very straight, narrow fairway makes this hole a real challenge and a problem for golfers with either a hook or slice. It is necessary for one to have a little loft in their swing in order to avoid a small trench in the center of the fairway.
  • Hole # 2—This is the shortest hole on the course (only 75 yards); nonetheless, it is not the easiest. Hazards/obstacles on this hole include a narrow fairway, small creek and a largely wooded area to the left of the fairway.
  • Hole #3—Possibly one of the least challenging, the layout is simple, and offers a straight shot to the green.
  • Hole #4—One of the most scenic of all holes, the challenge is to hit over a wide, man-made pond. Additionally, the fairway doglegs slightly to the right.
  • Hole #5—Similar to hole #2, the layout is that of a very straight fairway with a small trench.
  • Hole #6—This hole offers one of the wider fairways on this course. For more challenge, the fairway doglegs slightly to the left.
  • Hole #7—The longest of all of the holes (180 yards), this is a very straight and narrow fairway with no obvious hazards.
  • Holes #8 & 9—Both of these fairways are also very long and narrow. The challenge? Staying in the fairway (that is the fairway for the hole in which one is playing).
