Company golf days are a great way to say thank you to valued corporate customers and golf company days provide a great opportunity to create new business relationships.
There are many different types of company day and the decision regarding the best for you depends on budget and the amount of customers you would like to invite. There are many options to consider, and unless you have experience organising a corporate or company day it is worth asking professionals to help.
Mistakes to Avoid Organising a Company Day
Choosing the best venue. Sometimes a company gets so carried away with choosing a well-known golf course, the club eventually chosen is far away and many of the important customers invited decline the invitation.
Catering standards. At the start of the day coffee and and some type of breakfast should be on offer in the clubhouse. At the end of play your customers will not want to hang around endlessly for the evening meal to start. The bar has to be open and food must be served quickly and efficiently. A great day out can be spoiled with poor service in the clubhouse.
Suggesting too much golf. Eighteen holes is probably enough for most people, but never thirty-six. Inexperienced organisers can often overdo the amount of golf to be played. You do not want your valued customers to fall exhausted into chairs at the end of play. Less is better with regards to holes.
Type of Competition. The purest form of scoring in golf is stroke play, but many people find it the most unsocial. Not only does one have to concentrate hard when compiling a score, but even small mistakes can wreck any chance a golfer has of winning. Much better to have a stableford points system, or even a team game like a Texas Scramble.
Not giving away a memento of the day is a bad mistake. At very little cost a small gift can be given to the golfers invited. It’s a small gesture but usually much appreciated. And it’s good advertising for your company. A pitchfork repairer or tee pegs with your company name or logo are often given out on the day.
Make sure there is some sort of entertainment on offer in the clubhouse in case it's raining on the day and some do not wish to venture out onto the course. A good old golf video normally does the trick. But it has been known for magicians to be on hand.
