How to Make a Golf Cart Go FasterInstructions for Making Your Club Car Move Faster on the Course
Golf carts tend to move at only 10-15 miles per hour, on the golf course and elsewhere, but it is possible to speed up a golf cart by adjusting the governor.
On the golf course, things tend to move slowly. Carts may not get down the fairway fast enough, and you might find yourself frustrated trying to finish your round in under four hours. There are a number of things you can do to speed up your game, however, and increasing the speed of your cart is one. These steps also apply to carts not used on golf courses, known as club cars. Golf Cart SpeedA club car golf cart is simply a golf cart that is used outside of a golf course. Increasingly, carts are becoming popular as recreational vehicles or as modes of transportation around large estates, malls, hotels and outdoor areas. While most club cars are fixed at around 10-15 miles per hour, or adjusted at that speed, it is possible to increase the speed of any cart in a number of ways. Make a Golf Cart FasterThe following steps can be used to make your golf cart or club car move faster: Add larger tires to your club car. The tires that come standard on most golf carts are rather small. When adding larger tires, your engine will run at the same revolutions per minute (RPM), but the bigger tire will be able to cover more ground with each revolution, making your cart cover more ground more quickly. Install a high RPM motor. While this task is best left to a professional, installing a more powerful electric motor will allow your wheels to spin faster, propelling your cart to a higher speed. Remove any unnecessary weight from your club car. Extra weight or cumbersome racks add extra resistance, and can slow your cart down by as much as 3 or 4 miles per hour. Adjust the GovernorAlso, you can adjust the governor in your cart's motor. Adjusting the governor will allow you to remove the restrictions from your speed set by the maker of the cart. To adjust the governor, flip the seat of the cart open to access the motor. Your governor will be metal and T-shaped, and will be located near your accelerator cable, a small metal rod. You can attack these rods together with tape or with a rubber band to increase the speed of your cart by as much as 10-15 miles per hour, depending on your cart. While these steps are a start to increasing your enjoyment on the golf course, it is possible that you will be in less of a hurry on the course if you are hitting better shots and making lower scores.
