Any credible single man or woman would not have taken this article seriously twenty years ago. But golf clubs have chilled and now it's not a bad place to go for a drink

If you are a single man or woman and have never considered golf as a possible pastime why not give it a go and check out the local club. You don’t have to book, there will probably be one within a few miles, and it won’t cost you a thing except the price of a coffee. The local municipal pay and play golf club is run for the public and it's the starting point for anyone considering golf as a hobby.

Single People for Mixed Golf

If you are even remotely interested why not turn up one morning with a view to having a coffee in the clubhouse at the local 'pay and play'. It will be open from dawn to dusk, and there’s no need to worry about standing out. Single people are often waiting around golf clubs either for friends to turn up, or a starting time on the tee, but if you feel uncomfortable take a newspaper to read.

If the weather is good and the sun is shining, there is usually a terrace or balcony where you can sit outside and watch golfers hitting off the tee. If you are concerned about your ability to play the game, watching the average golfer will almost certainly give you confidence.

Meet Friends and Possible Partner

In the clubhouse there will be an abundance of information about club activities. Find the sheet that shows the tuition packages on offer. There is always a course for beginners and the most sensible option would be group tuition.

The resident club professional and his staff, who will be giving the lessons, are trained to look after single people experimenting with the possibility of taking up the game. They will do everything possible to help you enjoy your lessons and make you feel comfortable mixing with the other pupils.

There is no need to buy any equipment at this stage, everything can be hired while you decide if you want to continue. All you need to know about clothing and what shoes to wear will be on the lesson sheet.

There is also no need to worry how well you hit the ball. You might not be a sporty person, that doesn’t matter! At least the ball is stationary and it’s a lot easier than tennis.

To be honest, taking a golf lesson initially has little to do with hitting the ball better. It will be the first time you interact with people investigating the sport, everyone will be a little nervous, but the professional is trained to encourage you to enjoy the experience.

Healthy Hobby

Apart from taking lessons, there are many club activities that you can participate in. Special evenings, where new golfers are encouraged to mix, are often organised by the management. These offer ideal opportunities to meet new friends. Men and women from all walks of life take up the game, and very often firm friendships and are forged from the first experiences at the club.

Eventually you may even wish to have a round of golf. It’s a healthy hobby played in beautiful surroundings. For a single person wanting to branch out, it really is a pastime to be investigated. Go on – give it a go!
