College Fields Golf Course in Okemos offers lots of variety for golfers. It has a player friendly front nine and an extremely challenging back nine.

Located near the campus of Michigan State University, College Fields is a growing golf community offering both great golf and luxury housing. One can easily access this community via I-96/Lansing.

Playing College Fields Golf Course

Those looking to play College Fields Golf course will find it quite challenging; nonetheless, the course can be navigated by a novice with some playing experience. Each hole offers three tees from which to play; blue (being the farthest), white (for the average player) and red (typically used by lady golfers).

The front nine course offers an open playing area with straight greens and very few trees. Although these holes are not as challenging as those of the back nine, hazards such as sand bunkers, rolling hills, narrow fairways and nearby homes make these holes difficult for some players. It is a good play for golfers with short but accurate drives, and a headache for golfers with a bad habit such as a slice or hook.

Opposite of the front nine, the back nine holes of this course are set in a woodsy, somewhat rustic environment. It is filled with natural hazards such as trees, marsh and winding fairways. Consequently, a player struggling with distance or loft will have difficulty with this part of the course. It is great however for players who like to hit long and far thus many young male golfers frequent the back nine. When playing this portion of the course, it is wise to wear or carry insect repellant as the mosquitoes are horrendous.

Amenities at College Fields Golf Course

Another feature of this golf community is its practice facilities. The course offers both a practice putting green and a driving range. This particular driving range is unique in its layout. Some portions of the range are hilly, and there are areas with both tall grass and marsh. The layout also gives the golfer an opportunity to practice on loft as well as distance and accuracy.

Fees at College Field are quite reasonable. During weekdays one can play 9 holes with a cart for less than $30, and 18 holes for less than $50. On weekends the fees are slightly higher. The course offers discounts for students, youth and seniors. Golfers can enjoy on-site refreshments such as hot dogs, burgers, chips, candy, soda and water.

Presently the office and pro shop are both set up in a trailer. The trailer is located near both the parking lot and the 9th hole. Surprisingly, many walk this course; however, the average golfer would do best with a cart.
